BEST banana bread pudding I've ever eaten. (It's not even my favorite dessert!) this is a definite must go to if in NYC....multiple locations so that helps! Only tried a pumpkin/choc chip scone other then the pudding but still good! Atmosphere: was neat! Staff:friendly and effective...tried to get you as quick as service as possible!
Our wedding cake was not only more beautiful than I imagined it would be, it was also delicious. I am so tempted to defrost the top layer of our cake early! Jean was as wonderful as his cake! He let me transfer a previous unused deposit to this cake. He was great in the planning process, and had no problem with a last minute drop in the number of guests. Look no further for your cake needs!
The only thing you need to and must try is the banana bread pudding! It is heavenly. The bread is moist, but not overwhelmingly sweet, and the pudding is smooth and creamy. One bite and you'll be hooked!
Other than that, I don't think Magnolia Bakery is anything special. Sure they have a nice and cute store and their baked goods are rather okay, but I don't really see the hype. I've tried several of their cupcakes, they do taste good, but nothing out of the ordinary. I've taken friends from out of town here because they've heard the hype. I've bought cupcakes here to bring as gifts and to have myself, but it was just out of convenience. I think you could bake cupcakes yourself that would be rather on par.
4 STARS: ONLY FOR THE BANANA BREAD PUDDING!
If you DON'T CARE about CUSTOMER SERVICE, this is definitely the place to go. I'm from Chicago and tonight is my last night in town, so I'm sight seeing and doing some shopping and decide I'm going to stop here out of curiosity and because I wanted something warm. I go up to order and the young woman was very impolite when I asked for a vanilla latte. I've never been here before and went off the menu that is right above her. I don't think I need attitude when given the other latte options. So then I go to pay, and when giving the cashier my order I get interrupted when letting her know the sizes after not mentioning them the first time I told her my order. Then waiting on the two hot chocolates and one caramel latte, I'm in between the area to order and to pay.... No drinks. So I go back to the order area with the young woman from before... There are three cups in front of her and she rudely says here's your drinks. You saw me standing around looking lost and not willing to call me over to help? So then I ask her which is the caramel latte. She then says well I don't know I didn't make them. I really thought I was in some sort of reality show with how much attitude I was given from this young lady. So then she calls over Megan, I believe is who she called over. Then Megan comes over and the young lady tells her, they want to know which is the caramel latte. So she opens the lid of the first. She says yeah that's the hot chocolate. So I go for the second and it's another hot chocolate. Then she proceeds to say, yeah I assume that's the caramel. So with all the BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE I've gotten in less than 10 minutes, I don't chance it and open the lid. She's like yup, looks like caramel. Literally took everything in me to walk away and not say a word, especially since my mom and dad were right next to me witnessing this whole thing. And all because I wanted to get my parents a couple drinks to stay warm and enjoy New York night life longer...
I bought 2 cupcakes (vanilla) to taste them before ordering a cake for my friend's birthday surprise. The cupcakes were flavorful, but dry. I still decided to order the cake because of the location being near my work and the restaurant where the birthday took place. I placed the order the day before for the next day at 7:00pm. When I got there, the lady who had taken my order the day before spent 10 minutes looking for the cake before calling the manager who told me they did not make my 6" cake. I was quite disappointed. But he offered to give me a 8" cake and do the design and inscription I had requested the day before. The cake looked great! However, it seemed that I was lucky that they had an extra cake ready. I'm not sure what would have happened otherwise. Also, the cake tasted great, but once again it was dry...
