Free museum near Battery Park, the amazing architecture of which is worth dropping by here for on its own. PLUS a permanent exhibit that is also very interesting. Only downside is that on the whole the museum feels a little small when compared to the building it resides in. Wish they'd make better use of all that space!!
Free and an amazing museum. Definitely try to get on a tour especially a Custom House Tour. Be sure to go on their website and check out any events.
A great place for learning about native Indian cultures. Located in a beautiful historic building in easy walking distance of Battery Park and the Financial district. Many other historic sights nearby. Check out festive Stone Street for food and drinks...restaurant row with indoor and outdoor seating and cobblestone street shut off to traffic.
This Museum was great. filled with Pictures and other Native American items. I highly suggest you check this out if you want to check the statue of Liberty. It's right outside of Bowling Green station. There is also bag checking so get your bags ready for being checked by security guards.
Note: This is an active federal building, so you will be required to go through full security to enter. Don't let it scare you.
Pro Tip: If the line at the main entrance is long, the "group entrance" to the right down the stairs outside is often faster.
Pro Tip 2: If you are a local, this is the best building to get your Trusted Traveler interview done. Make sure you explore the museum after your appointment.
Go for the museum, but stay to explore the Customs House. Absolutely gorgeous building.
