Loved it!
Just an amazing experience which I would recommend to anyone visiting New York and I would definitely go again. Beautiful, informative exhibits with enough information for kids and adults. The dioramas are like looking back in time, the level of detail and accuracy is just mind blowing. Toilets are all very clean and the staff were all friendly. Good gift shop options what weren't that overpriced either. I think we spent about five hours and we didn't manage to see everything so definitely plan your visit. My favourite section was of course, the dinosaurs :D
You can spend the entire day in this beautiful museum. It's HUGE....So much to see and so much history. It is packed, lots of tourists like myself. I have been here when i was younger and it does bring out the child in me. This is definitely a place to bring out of town guest and family visiting NYC. There are a few cafes at location and if i can remember has four levels. So if you plan to go, be prepared to be entertained with rich history of our past.
I could have spent days here! If I was a local, I would absolutely be a member.
It was tough to decide what to dive into given the 3 hours we had they day, but I enjoyed everything I saw. The giant blue whale dominated the ocean exhibit, where we passed our first well-spent hour. Our favorite part of that was the deep-sea panels.
Great space, very clean, staff were efficient and friendly. The kids loved the dinosaur bones... They are pretty young so it wasnt really set up for them. I really like taking them to educational outings. My suggestions: and there is a lot of room to upgrade... I would have an interactive room for young kids, dinosaur bones that they can connect, a dinosaur slide... A sand box with the special sand ... With dinosaur bones, fish, butter flies, star shapes to make impressions in the sand. A movie meant for the toddler age. With a mini cafeteria just for the young age group.. sandwich cut outs... Dino's, fish, stars, birds... Gets the kids imagination running. There is really no limit to entertaining kids, and I feel that by starting young will help foster the science mindfulness in kids.
We bounced around a bit before landing in the dinosaur exhibit, where we spent the rest of our time. My favorite part about that? The disclaimers that were posted clearly staying the difference between what was known, what the facts strongly supported, what was guessed, and what simply could not be known. Good job with that!
Very nice museum. Typically very busy on weekends and holidays. If possible visit during the week. They have special exhibitions that cost a lot extra but they are usually very very good and worth the extra large cost. Entry tickets are for a specific time but you can stay as long as you want. NO re-entry! Dinosaur exhibition is very interesting, educational and impressive, it spans a whole floor of the museum. Also the smaller exhibition about earth on the ground floor is incredible, interesting, educational and well made. See there many real They Came From Outer Space including one that fell and hit a car in nearby Peekskill New York.
