I hope to return again one day.
It is a genuine NY town house. Modern day hotels are done to a recipe and always look manufactured. Here, everything is genuine and of the highest standard from the Early American antique furniture to the genuine friendliness of Charles and Gary. They go out of their way to be helpful - including helping me sew on a button just before I was heading out for the evening. That seriously happened.
This is one of the worst places you can end up at. While the owner is nice, the place smells terrible (really old). You walk up the stairs and you feel like you're in a hunted house. I found something for 1/3 of the price he offered me and a thousand times better than this place.
I was made to feel more than welcome on my arrival and the warm approach continued throughout my time there.

Location and price great. Chelsea Markets just down the street. Sub way station 5 minute walk. Easy to get from airport to guest house using trains/subway which is what I always do. No need for taxi.
I really really like the place and give it my highest recommendation.
I would not want to stay anywhere else in New York and I always stay here. If you like being treated like a friend and like history and character this place has it all. Don't be surprised by the celebrities who do choose to stay here.
If you want to spend the day in a room then choose one of their larger rooms.
This is an iconic New York gay landmark and there is nothing else in the world that comes close to its charm and character.

I like sharing and meeting others and it is great for that. Single rooms are an ideal size and beds comfortable. Sharing a bathroom has never been a problem for me. They have ensuite rooms but I keep returning to my favorite room which is a single room.
I visited this guesthouse for the first time 8 years ago and I keep going back because I have so many great memories. It just keeps getting better all the time. It is in a perfect location to use as a jumping board to go anywhere you want in New York. High Line is a short walk away. The room was very quiet, old-style and comfortable. One of the best gay guesthouses I have stayed at. I love it, and the owners are friendly and wonderful.
I have my favorite room which I always ask for - its the one with the pyramid lamp (work of art) Jackson Pollock style painting and the painting of the Boxer on the wall. Their back garden is fantastic.
I have always stayed here over the years. You won't find nicer people than the owners. Their taste in antiques and interiors is fantastic.
The staff are friendly and the owner of the hotel is extremely kind and will go to extremes to help your stay comfortable.Nothing seemed to be a bother.
Chelsea Mews is an incredible value and place to stay in NYC. The private house is in the best location and is close to everything including subway, restaurants and sites. The rooms are small yet I didn't spend much time there anyway... I was out and about... WiFi was excellent for keeping in touch. Other guests staying there my weekend were quite friendly and the owners, Charles & Gary, just couldn't be more friendly, entertaining or accommodating ... proudly showing off their house and vintage back yard.... they offered suggestions on places to eat and visit as I learned that they have lived in the house since the late 1970's and seem to know everything about Chelsea. A GREAT VALUE!
I had a wonderful 7 nights stay.
Gary took me on a bike tour of Manhattan which I will remember for the rest of my life.
