My first time here today, I was tempted to leave because I was completely ignored while waiting for information on the lower level, no acknowledgement or even simple eye contact. Before I was about to leave I asked a cashier for assistance and I was sent to the upper floor. The young lady at the information desk on the top floor was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely come again. I purchased some cool manga while I was there.
Wonderful destination for all things Japanese in the heart of New York. Over the years I have picked up home decor, fashion and creative arts supplies. They even have a good food court.
Went here with a friend who is a Sinophilic pen lover. She was delighted I was amused by her delight. There is a pretty amazing selection of graphic novels on the second floor, and some of the products in the stationery area are neat. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area, or looking for better writing utensils than you can find at the average stationery store.
After visiting Japan his last year, one of the only stores I have been to stateside that TrueType feels like a true Japanese bookstore. Also they cafe upstairs is awesome.
By far the coolest bookstore in Manhattan. The first floor is all Japanese books and comics. But the bottom floor is where the magic happens... Japanese stationary to die for. Walls and walls of beautifully stitched notebooks and journals. And a large selection of pens. Fountain pens, gels, you name it. A must see if you enjoy writing, or need to pick up a killer gift.
