Great selection, lots of people ready to help. It's typically very busy and full of tourists so you have to not mind people bumping into you, but it's not so bad. Staff picks are pretty solid but rotate pretty slowly. Most of the categories make sense. The thing I miss from other bookstores are places to sit, but I understand this is more of a volume place than anything else. They also hold book talks and other events at their space.
A beautiful mecca of a bookstore with both new and used books. The Strand has a dedicated desk to sell your used books to get cash or in-store credit. The atmosphere makes you want to spend more time with your head in the books than you'd planned. The abundance of space in the aisles and seating spots approve of your choice to open just one more book. The range of books includes the newest best sellers, a wide range of genre book collections, and even some a section and floor dedicated to hard-to-find books.
The Strand is a NYC institution and one of the few bookstores that cater to a wide variety of interests. It's quite large and constantly has a rotating selection of authors who come to promote and speak about their work. Whenever I've visited, the staff has always been informative, quick to help, and gave great recommendations. I personally loved the nostalgia and vastness a great bookstore brings, so definitely check out The Strand.
If you're looking for a huge books selection come here. There are 4 floors of books. You can find limited edition books, expensive books and also super cheap books from $2! This bookstore is a hidden treasure in New York city. You can find here all books even I different languages and they also sell used books which are not in print any more. You can find post cards as well. They even have a kids area. Books can be also shipped directly to your home for $0.99 a piece. What a fantastic price! Worth the visit for sure.
This is one of my favorite places in NYC. I love books and when I can, I enjoy nothing more than to get lost in the fiction isles of this store. I love finding hard cover first editions of my favorite books. You never know what you will find in the isles. I have found signed books by Carlos Fuentes and rare out-of-print hard cover copies of the classics. I love the rare books room in the third floor where they hold readings by authors, actors, musicians and painters. Check their events schedule to find out who they'll be hosting next.
Whether you are after a specific book at a great price, or simply want to explore, Stand is the place to go for all booklovers!
