Two officers, Officer Abreu and her partner (whose name I didn't get because of the situation) found my Alzheimer's stricken mother wandering on 70th Street. My mom lives in Washington Heights. These beautiful human beings and professionals, stayed with her, took her to the hospital to make sure she was okay and tracked me down, who had no clue about what had happened. My mom has moved to that phase of dementia and this had been (hopefully) the first time she'd wandered. Angels come in many forms, and last night, they came in the form of two officers who showed compassion and care for a complete stranger. God bless them both and God bless the NYPD.
This is why Cops get bad reps. They can be bullies even when you are being a good samaritan. Really disappointing.
Very nice and responsive. Definitely appreciate all the officers and the Explorers post
It's a sad day when you find and turn in a wallet and get treated like you are the one who stole it. I was taking a walk with my mom in Riverside park. We found the wallet on the bench with everything out. We picked it up and carried it all the way to the precinquint, (abandoning our walking path) because I didn't want to call the stranger. We assumed the police would. THEY DON'T! If you ever turn something in they will never try to contact the person according to Marta at the front desk. They just file it away. I said, "I wish I could have called and then told him it was here if you (police) weren't going to." With a totally unwarranted attitude she said, "well you should have thought about that before you turned it in!" WOW! Just trying to be a good citizen and you get treated so poorly. If Marta was having an off day and was rude I can give her that BUT what's ridiculous is that any property turned in, the owner won't be contacted. This was a wallet with a name and state id. He could have been reached. So if this happens to you and you deal with an unhappy person with an attitude like Marta, call the owner of the property and tell them you left it with the police station.
They abuse their authority against a good Samaritan.
Been in the neighborhood for my whole life. They are helpful and responsive. Really appreciate them down the block.
