I am so glad to hear that this place has reopened. I don't know why it even closed in the first place. I'm looking forward to going there again. I LOVE the rack of lamb, and I love the cheeseburger, and I most definitely love the price. The only thing I don't love is how insanely tiny the place is, but I guess that's just New York for you.
They said something louder again, which was, "CHINATOWN". So, I looked over and they said "Ching Chang" loud enough for me to hear these INSULTS!!!!
Great sandwiches! Don't buy anything else though, the snacks/drinks are marked up big-time
I grabbed my order immediately and went straight to the cash register where the Korean owner always stands behind the cash register collecting money. I spoke to him and told him everything; how they didn't speak loud enough and how they called me CHINATOWN and CHING CHANG. The Korean owner didn't understand me at first, so I repeated the incident again in which he understood me the second time around. The owner knows that I frequent at this lunch spot and apologized. I told him that he needs to discuss this with his workers. But, it's too late now. Cafe Lafayette has lost me as a customer and my company will not cater from this place anymore!
My husband works in the area so I drove in with him cuz of festival. We stopped here to grab a bite but he goes here alot. I had to use the bathroom, omg, I was amazed how clean it was. You know what they say, if the bathroom is clean, then it's a good place. That will be my #1 place in the area. And the burger & fries was good too.
I posted this review on Yelp too. Been coming here frequently for over 3 years since I work very close by. I went today (10/25/2016) to order my usual grilled chicken sandwich; however when my order was ready for me to pick up, the employees didn't announce the food pickup loud enough, even though, I wasn't on my phone or listening to music. I was alert and paid full attention during my wait for food. They announced it twice but I still didn't hear it.
Sandwiches are good. Cozy place to just sit and eat lunch in. (California Wrap) try it! Its delicious!!!
Plus, this place is in Chinatown!! It's just terrible that an establishment like this is in Chinatown for employees to make fun of Asians. This is 2016!!!!!! #racist #thisis2016
