Do not come here if you want your pet to be happy. My pet is traumatized because of her experience here. STAY AWAY
When the day came we were surprised to finally have the opportunity to meet her - she said she had come in to take care of "paperwork" and had decided to take care of our case since she was around anyway, since we had spoken on the phone so much. I have my suspicions that she really was there to take care of our cat, and the end of life care we received from her was so compassionate, so genuine, and made us feel that we made the right decision.
Hands down the best practice I've ever been to, one of the best anythings I've been too. Dr. Obernesser is a truly compassionate and wonderful veterinarian - we moved our cat, who was in pretty rough shape after an ICU visit, to Uptown Vets so that we would have local care, and before I had spent at a dime there I had a good, long conversation with her about our cat's health - she had already been in touch with all of his ICU caretakers, had looked through his records, and had a great grasp of the situation. On top of that, our cat's quality of life seemed to be her sole concern - she urged me not to bring him in while he recovered from his ICU trip and pressed that their only concern was his comfort and quality of life, as should ours be.
My only regret is that we haven't been going here all along.
Dr. Obernesser is the kindest and friendliest vet I have ever seen. She even took into consideration my dog's level of stress when deciding whether to admit her or send her home. We ended up going home, and she called twice to check up on my dog. This isn't the closest vet to where I live, but I think it will be where we go regularly.
I can't recommend this place enough. The staff is wonderful all around, the doctors are knowledgeable, and in terms of NYC it's not very expensive. They are also wonderful communicators, calling regularly to check in and making it clear that we should feel comfortable calling whenever we needed to. A special place full of special people, and I can't thank them enough.
warning: DO NOT USE THIS VET! went in to get dogs teeth cleaned and was quoted for up to 5 teeth being removed. I come back and they pulled 23 teeth without even calling beforehand. I even filled out a form saying to call if any additional work were to be done. Extremely unprofessional, do not recommend, my pet is traumatized.
Our puppy had 3 parasites and Dr. O caught them quickly and treated them -- they were gone within 2 weeks. Amazing service, and they truly care about the animals just as much as we do!
Eventually we brought our guy in, and they were very patient and forgiving even though he's maybe one of the most difficult cats anyone has had to deal with. When it became clear that he would be happier in the next world than the current one, we made an appointment and she said that, unfortunately, she wouldn't be working that day, but that the other vet would of course be there to take care of us very well.
Uptown Vet is amazing. I would recommend them to anyone. I am a first-time puppy owner and have had many concerns about my dog. When I call, the vet or vet techs always pick up and answer my questions. One time, I apologized, saying "Sorry I call so much -- I'm just worried and want my puppy to be healthy!". Dr. Obenesser's response was, "That's why we're here. We don't want you to worry. Instead of worrying, pick up the phone and talk to us."
