Wonderful people brutally destroyed. They were Romaniotes not Sefardic.
They offer free tours on of the synagogue itself on Sundays. It's a tiny place, and so the tour doesn't last long, but after it you can go to the second floor and enjoy their equally small museum of Greek Jewish artifacts. There are also books and t-shirts for sale. The man giving the tour at the time I went was very friendly and you could tell was genuinely passionate about getting to share Greek Jewish history with interested people.
Kehila Kedosha Janina is a Romaniote Jewish synagogue in the Lower East Side.
Highly recommended if you're a fan of history and lesser known cultures.
A beautiful tiny jewel box, a reminder of Greek-Jewish continuity, this unique spot exudes heart and soul. For prayer services, the Women's section is upstairs...I enjoyed the birds eye view!
Very friendly and knowledgeable. Very enlightening
Very welcoming and full of Greek history. Kudos to the staff and families.
